Monolith and Meadow
GREATER GEELONG
Born from the eaveless geometry of its clinker brick heritage, this contemporary Geelong extension redefines the art of gathering through a sophisticated interplay of light and volume. A vaulted timber-batten ceiling and a monolithic stone island anchor the interior, creating a tactile sanctuary that blurs the boundary between the home and the landscape.
Monolith and Meadow commences construction shortly.

“A solid foundation, projected with intent.
A story of mass and release.
Tracing the lines of its heritage, an eaveless form emerges from the original clinker brick facade, carving a new, singular volume through the site.
The gabled interior, rhythmic and warm; timber battens follow the soaring pitch to capture the movement of light.
Living spaces - open and inviting.
A monolithic stone island; a grounded weight at the social heart of the home.
The shimmering pool at the threshold, a constant dialogue between the interior sanctuary and the landscape beyond.
A legacy once defined by the weight of its own stillness.
Now a social heart where the monolith meets the meadow.”.
A clinker brick heritage home crafted with social gathering, landscape and light centre stage.
From Facade to Form
The architectural narrative begins with the original residence - a pure, eaveless clinker brick front facade defined by its honest materiality, period detailing and geometric simplicity. The design concept for the extension was born from projecting this street facing form through the site, creating a singular, extruded volume that serves as a seamless evolution of the home’s DNA. The resulting gabled interior acts as a hollowed-out expression of that initial mass, where the weight of the traditional brickwork gives way to the rhythmic warmth of a vaulted timber-batten ceiling.
The Social Heart
At its core, the design is a response to the fundamental human desire for connection. The floor plan is choreographed to facilitate the art of hosting, allowing the living, dining, and kitchen zones to flow into one another without visual friction. Central to this experience is the monolithic stone island that grounds the social heart of the home. This sculptural gesture acts as a natural anchor for guests, facilitating everything from quiet morning rituals to large-scale evening gatherings, ensuring the architecture remains an active participant in the home's social energy.
A Dialogue with Water
The proximity of the pool to the residence is a defining feature of the new arrangement. By bringing the water’s edge almost to the threshold of the living zone, the design creates a constant, shimmering interplay between the interior and the landscape. Large-format glazing allows the pool to act as a cooling presence and a visual extension of the living space. Softened by sheer linen drapery, this connection transforms the pavilion into a place of light and reflection, where the boundaries between the built form and the elements are beautifully blurred.
Materiality and Precision
The palette remains a study in restraint. The cool, industrial finish of the polished concrete floors provides a tonal counterpoint to the verticality of the oak joinery and the soft radius of the custom-formed rangehood. Every junction, from the integrated ventilation details to the precise alignment of the wall cladding, is resolved with a commitment to architectural integrity. It is a home that celebrates the "quiet luxury" of simplicity.
